FLOPSY LIFE

Star Light, Star Bright

The other evening, friends & I were talking about how we need pockets of joy, especially in the darkest of times. Not in a toxic positivity way - it’s a basic necessity for survival. When it feels like there’s no hope, we can fall into apathy & despair. We stop caring about the things that are important to us. We give up.

Taking a bit of time to do things that make us feel confident, capable, & connected isn’t selfish or vain. It’s how we nurture our bodies & souls, finding the strength to be able to do hard things. It’s a way to build resiliency, heal, keep moving forward, & be in community. Sometimes it’s how we thrive. Other times, it’s how we simply survive.

Working these things into what you already do in your day is an easy way to do this, like getting dressed. I learned there’s actually a term for this the other day (thanks, Jennea) - dopamine dressing! When we do something that brings us pleasure, it impacts the chemicals our brain sends to our bodies. What we put on our body can change our brain chemistry - how freaking cool is that? Changing your outfit won't change the world, but it can shift your mood & what you believe is possible.

So, like stars in the night, I hope these garments are a bright spot in your life. They were inspired by the colours of spring, the first shoots & blooms that remind us the cold, dark days won’t last forever. May they make you smile & feel good so you can go out & DO good.
